The Hellenic Corporate Governance Council is a joint initiative of HELEX and the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV). Their shared vision, for the sustained competitiveness of Greek corporations and enhanced credibility of the Greek market, led to the recognition of the significance of corporate governance. 

HCGC is a member of the European Corporate Governance Codes Network (Network Brochure) and Expert Contributor to the annual Doing Business survey of the World Bank (Protecting Minority Investors Index).

The purpose of the Hellenic Corporate Governance Council (HCGC) is to:

  • ensure the Hellenic Corporate Governance Code (the Code) is well understood, accepted and endorsed by Greek companies and to warrant the continued relevance and implementation of the Code over time
  • monitor and evaluate the implementation of the Code, adoption of statistical reports and recommendations for improvement based on results with intent to improve implementation of the Code's practices
  • support and train Greek companies to increase their understanding of the principles and the effective implementation of the Code
  • continuously adapt the Code to the conditions and requirements of the international and domestic markets
The HCGC is governed by a five-member management council in which the HCGC General Manager counts as one of the five members. The Chairman of the Management Council is appointed by ATHEX and SEV on an alternating basis. In addition, by decision of the HCGC Management Council a fifteen -member council was established and its rules of operation approved.
 
This fifteen-member council is made up of individuals recognized by the Management Council for their knowledge, distinction and experience.
