OPAP Group technology strategy on track: significant progress with its technology transformation programme

  • 1,000 SSBTs now operational
  • New retail sports-betting platform by Playtech BGT Sports is on track
  • New digital platform on track for launch Q1 2018
  • Novomatic and Intralot remain key technology partners

OPAP Group (OPAP), the leading Greek betting and lottery operator, is making significant progress on the implementation of its technology strategy and the necessary technological improvements in its retail network and digital environment. For the implementation of the 2020 Vision, OPAP conducted a technology strategy review in 2016 and launched a broad transformation project in 2017, aiming at securing modern, best-in-class solutions for all existing activities, and as the foundation for future strategies.

Retail Products

Having successfully introduced Virtual Games and SSBTs during 2017, OPAP is now in the process of launching Playtech BGT Sports Live sports betting solution for OPAP agencies network. The new platform will provide a wider range of sports-betting opportunities and a seamless experience between "live", "pre-game", OTC and SSBT bet placement.

Moreover, in the context of OPAP's retail network investment and the introduction of new products and services Novomatic is the primary provider of SSBT cabinets. Novomatic is also providing premium gaming content to OPAP's VLT customers, which are delivered via Inspired Entertainment's open platform technology.

Numeric Lotteries

OPAP has recently decided to continue working with Intralot in the field of numerical lotteries and services. Novomatic has agreed to support this strategic realignment. To this end OPAP has agreed with Intralot an extension to the existing relationship, which will include the delivery of a new lottery platform and significant commercial improvements over the next few years.

Digital

OPAP continues to work with Novomatic in the delivery of its Player Account Management System (PAM) and an agreement has now been reached for OPAP to directly manage the development of all future PAM improvements. This will allow OPAP even further control over its future customer relationship management plans, especially for digital channels. Digital is an area of significant opportunity for OPAP, and the company is on track to deliver its new Betgenius sports betting platform in Q1 2018.

OPAP Chief Executive Officer, Damian Cope commenting on the overall progress of the technology strategy implementation stated: “Our technology strategy is progressing well as we continue to establish greater control and flexibility over our digital and technological environment. We are working closely with all our technology partners in order to deliver our 2020 Vision and transform the role of technology within the organisation for the benefit of the company and our customers”.

OPAP is proceeding with its investment of more than 100 million Euros over the next few years. In parallel, OPAP has created more than 200 new direct job positions in Greece in 2017 that support the implementation of its plans, while generating additional hundreds indirect job opportunities in the country through its operations.
